BACHATA:
Bachata originated in the rural neighborhoods of Dominican Republic. It has become one of the most popular Latin dances in recent years with the addition of electronic sounds and Mixing of pop music with the latin sound. Bachata basics consist of 3 steps and a tap. The chasse basic goes "side-together-side-tap" and can be spiced up with a hip motion or a lift of the leg at the "tap" step. Dancers keep their knees bent throughout to promote hip motion. Bachata can be danced in two-hand hold, open embrace but is often danced in close embrace at nightclubs.

CHA CHA:
Cha Cha is a dance style that originated in Cuba and became popular in the U.S. in the 50s. This dance style is one of the most fun styles to dance to because it can be danced to authentic Cuban music as well as Latin Pop and Latin Rock. The primary difference in Cha Cha is the addition of a triple step that replaces the slow step in Mambo/Rumba.

AFRO LATIN DANCE:
The beauty of Afro-Latin and Folkloric dance is in the freedom of authentic emotion, full body expression and the strong connection to the music and drums. This class is designed to share that beauty with everyone - newcomers who are curious about Afro-Latin body movement, dancers who have a focused interest in Folkloric dance styles, as well as established Salsa dancers who want to deepen their movement versatility and musicality. Together we will work to uncover and build on the natural musicality each dancer has through the practice of drills that are aimed to teach broad Afro-Latin body movements, as well as isolations and emotional expressions to incorporate in each of the movements. To mirror the “call-and-response” song structure and strengthen the connection to the music, this class will be taught with the instructor leading students through a series of individual and progressive movements. Each week we will focus on a different part of the body, and will tie it all together as we advance through the series. By the end of the 8 weeks dancers will have increased understanding, expression and fluidity of body movement; and will have improved musicality that can be applied to many other styles of dance!
